The Chicago classic is back and revamped with huge mixes from the heavy hitters.
“Here I Am Baby” was originally released on the Copa Cabana EP in 1998 by Farris Wheel Recordings. The deep disco workout instantly became a classic Chicago hit and worldwide favorite. At the time, the French house sound, characterized by its filtered disco riffs and thick beats, was just beginning to develop and grow in popularity. “Here I Am Baby” was the perfect embodiment of this sexy new style.
Alphabet Music licensed “Here I Am Baby” and charged some of the world’s top house producers with the task of revisiting and revamping this timeless classic. The challenge was accepted with enthusiasm, and appropriately, many of the producers who participated in the project originate from Chicago.
Each producer brings their signature style to the table. Mark Farina’s remix is a stomping workout that utilizes the classic elements of the original EP. It’s a party-pleaser guaranteed to be loved by every fan of Farina’s legendary sound. Joshua takes a unique approach, blending dubby, psychedelic effects backboned by a hypnotic key hook and disco flourishes. The Inland Knights incorporate organic elements and a catchy key riff that harkens back to their earlier production work. This one could have fit right in on Paper Recordings and its a reminder of their creative genius. Broadway and Wilson throw in a new vocal hook which they work over the breakdown resulting in a true Chicago banger that will be a winner with the jackin’ house crowd. Dimitri Max’s version delivers a deeper edge with subtle builds, mellow pads and looped vocal. Alphabet Music co-owner Ken ECB rounds out the EP with a 118-bpm analogue stinger with soulful twists and an old-school vibe.
